The National Electronic Payment System (SINPE) is a technological platform developed and managed by the Central Bank of Costa Rica. It connects financial entities and public institutions throughout the country through a private telecommunications network, enabling them to electronically transfer funds between IBAN accounts and participate in the trading markets organized by the Central Bank of Costa Rica through this platform.

A payment system that operates properly and securely supports the development of a country’s economic activity.
The Central Bank of Costa Rica created a secure and efficient technological platform called SINPE, which can be accessed through institutions affiliated with the platform. It enables real-time fund transfers and the use of various payment instruments. Recently, the Bank introduced a new family of banknotes to ensure that transactions can be carried out as securely as possible and at the lowest possible cost.
This technological platform was launched on April 17, 1997, beginning with the Check Clearing and Settlement service, which streamlined the settlement process for this payment instrument. At that time, checks represented a significant portion of fund transfers.
Since then, additional services have been developed that not only speed up operations and reduce risks for institutions directly associated with SINPE, but also benefit their customers. These services include Third-Party Fund Transfers, Direct Credits, Direct Debits, and others that provide greater options for transferring funds from one financial institution to another.
As a commercial identifier, “SINPE” is a registered trademark owned by the Central Bank of Costa Rica, and the use of its logos and images is regulated under the “SINPE Brand Manual.” Any person or entity wishing to use this trademark must request prior authorization from the Central Bank of Costa Rica, stating the reasons and intended uses for the brand, which they agree to comply with.
